Still Standing is the upcoming sixth studio album by American singer-songwriter Monica. It will be the third album released under Monica's contract with J Records (the singer renewed her joint venture with the label in October 2007),[2] and is currently scheduled for a release in the first quarter of 2009.

Background

So far, the singer has worked with producers and songwriters Johnta Austin, Babyface, Bryan Michael Cox, Drumma Boy, Jermaine Dupri, L.O.S., Ne-Yo, Polow da Don, Stargate, Soulshock & Karlin, and WyldCard as well as artists auch as Keyshia Cole and Ludacris.[3] [4] [2] Her team also is in negoations with R. Kelly to contribute to Still Standing.[4] In an interview with Versus Magazine, Lil Jon moreover recently stated that he was "about to do some work with Monica."[5] Productionwise, the album is expected to orient on earlier projects: "I am going back to where I started," Monica said in an interview with Concrete Loop.[6] "The next album I would like people to get more songs like "Why I Love You So Much," "Angel of Mine," or the things they really, really love from me ..."

Originally titled Lessons Learned Monica decided to change the project recently as she felt that Still Standing was more appropriate for the body of work that she and Bryan Cox pulled off.[2] Although the debut episode of the reality television show Monica: The Single on Peachtree TV was filmed to promote the release of the album's leading single, no track has been picked yet, as the label and the singer were not in agreement with the album's title track "Still Standing" becoming the first single.[7] [8] As a result, Monica set up additional sessions with longtime contributor Missy Elliott in hopes to find a new single.

Singles

"Still Standing", a song featuring Ludacris, was originally planned as the album's first single, but the label were not in agreement with the track as a lead single. the song entered the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at number 78 in the week of August 21, 2008 based on airplay only, before sliding down the charts. In its fourth week, it rebounded from number 89 to number 74 while still only having been released as a promo single.[9] The single was not fully released as a promotional single, it charted along which gained major airplay.
