Madeleine Renaud was a distinguished actress and a major figure in French theater in the 20th century. She was born on 21 February 1900 in Paris and died there on 23 September 1994.

In 1940 Madeleine Renaud married the actor-director Jean-Louis Barrault (1910-1994). They often acted together and cofounded a number of theater companies. They toured extensively, including North and South America.

Madeleine Renaud had a son Jean-Pierre Granval (10 December 1923 - 28 May 1998) from her first marriage with actor Charles Gribouva (Charles Grandval). Her second husband was the actor Pierre Bertin. By her third marriage she was the aunt of the actress Marie-Christine Barrault (b. 1944).
